beginning: Questions from prospective transfer

Hi there. :) My name is Ashley, and I'm from Connecticut. I maintain womenscolleges and campusreviews, but I haven't seen much if any discussion about Stephens in either of those communities, so I figured I should come post over here already. :) I'm thinking about transferring to Stephens, so I was wondering if I could get some info from each of you.

One of the things I'm wondering about is the area in general. I've only briefly driven through Missouri (I-35, I think it is?) and don't know much about the place, but I know it must be really different for someone coming from New England. Has anyone else moved there from out-of-state? How was the adjustment?

Also, how do you feel about the interaction with professors? Do you get a lot of attention? I'm used to being incredibly close to mine, so I'd like to go somewhere where that would continue.

I'm still undecided about a major, but I know I'd want to take courses in political science, French, English, and history, so anything you can tell me about those departments would be great.

In short: Tell me what you know. :) I'd really love you for it.

stephens_susie: networking galore

so i know not so many people read this lj, but i'm gonna post some neato stuff anyhow.

3 more keen ways to connect with your fellow stephens women:
1 - the facebook. yep, that's correct. stephens is now part of that network. (this only really works for current students and/or recent alums who still have an active email).

2 - friendster. join up there and then join up with the stephens college group. alums and current gals alike. whee!

3 - myspace has a great little stephens area plus there's a group started there for the college, too.

and then, in an aside, for those wood womyn and wood alums out there - friendster is also home to a wood womyn (and friends/supporters/etc.) group.

join up! connect! network! yak!

alright, so it's been a while since i (or anyone for that matter) touched this thing.

so here goes:

stephens website housing page update featuring news of searcy's new home (4th floor pillsbury - i damn well hope they moved 45 years of scrapbooks and such) even if the description is just a cut-paste from the old program description and i hear it'll be different and official wood hall(way) placement in hillcrest (which, if alumnae newsletters are correct, is going to get an overhaul in anticipation of rising enrollment!).

annie potts sent out, through the college, another cal for pledges. how bout say people give the college some money? when i get some, i'd like to start an endowed scholarship (with the help of others, obviously and hopefully) in the name of margaret campbell. and set up some keen requisites. so that we can all know that a "margaret campbell scholarship receipient" is worthy of the title. yes?

that's all i've got for now.

new students?
alums?
anybody out there?

stephens_susie: help in the stephens family

the following info came to my email today via em heffner via toni hull

any help would be great.

********************
Hiya-

Some of you I probably haven't talked to in forever, but I felt that this was news that I had to share with all of you. The best thing about Stephens is the new family you can call on in times of need, and that is why I am writing all of you today.

Hannah Baumhover, Class of 2004, lost her father suddenly Monday to a massive heart attack. Hannah comes from a large family, and her father provided 2/3 of the family's income. I spoke with Hannah today, and she is being incredibly strong, as she is the oldest. She is deeply concerned about the well being of her mother and younger brothers. This was a very unexpected loss to her family that will affect them immensely in so many ways. As her Stephens family, I believe we can help her out.
